SHAREHOLDER PARTY

Terms of Use

Short, because it is a free game and there is not much to agree to. By using the site you accept the following.

1. It is free, and it is provided as-is

Shareholder Party costs nothing, guarantees nothing and is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. It may be unavailable, it may lose a game in progress, and it will occasionally contain a bug. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using it. Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

2. It is satire, not advice

Everything on this site is entertainment and satire. It is not financial, investment, career, legal, tax, medical or employment advice, and it must not be relied on as any of those. “Shareholder Value” is a number in a board game and has no relationship to anything you own.

The market capitalisations in VALUATION and the salary figures in PAY BANDS are approximate, rounded, drawn from public sources, taken at a fixed point in time and included as quiz material. They go out of date. Do not use them to make a decision about an investment, a job offer or a pay negotiation. The company names and job titles that appear are used descriptively; the site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any company or organisation named on it, as about sets out.

3. Be decent to other players

The one social rule: aim at the system, not at the person opposite you. Do not use a display name, a room name or a message to harass, abuse, impersonate, threaten or demean anybody, and do not put anything hateful or obscene into a field other people can see.

Do not attack the service either: no attempts to break, overload, scrape or reverse the game state, no scripting a client to play for you, no cheating at the activities, and no attempt to reach anybody else's account. Hiring temps in the lobby is a feature of the game and is not what this means. We may remove access, close an account or delete a room for any of the above, without notice, because there is no appeals department and there is not going to be one.

4. The games can change or stop

We can change the rules, the balance, the cards, the boards, the daily puzzles or the site itself at any time, and we can withdraw any of it. Games in progress, streaks, stats and leaderboard positions are not guaranteed to survive a change. This is a hobby project, and one day it may simply stop.

5. The content stays ours

The game rules, the board, the cards, the objectives, the text, the design and the code are ours. Playing does not transfer any rights in them, and you get no licence beyond using the site normally in a browser.

Do not scrape, bulk-copy, republish or resell the content, and do not use it to train or populate another product. Quoting a card in a screenshot, a review, a chat or a share text is fine and encouraged, which is why the share buttons exist.

Anything you type in and send us, such as a bug report or an idea for a card, we may act on and use without owing you anything for it. If you would rather that were not the case, do not send it.

6. Accounts and age

You can play as a guest with no account. If you create one, keep your password to yourself, use an email address you actually control, and expect to be responsible for what happens on it.

Accounts are for people aged 13 or over. By creating one you confirm you are 13 or older. If you are under 13, you can still play as a guest, and you should ask a parent or guardian first. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13 we will delete it. What an account stores is set out in privacy and cookies.

7. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If a clause turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we do not enforce something immediately, we have not given up the right to.

8. Getting in touch

Any notice, complaint, deletion request or legal matter goes through the contact form. It is read by a person.

Related: privacy and cookies, about and how it works, which is where the actual rules of the game live. Or stop reading terms and start a game, join an open room, or take a daily puzzle.
